Polhawn Fort Wedding Photography
Polhawn Fort near Torpoint in Cornwall has become one of the best wedding venues in the South West and was nominated for Wedding Venue of the Year Award in 2008, and a finalist in the Westcountry wedding venue of the year award 2009, but it hasn’t always been this way. It was originally built in the 1860’s as part of the widespread defenses of the very important Naval Base at Plymouth. It is one of a number of Forts know as Napoleonic Forts, due to being constructed to defend against the French. They also became know as Palmerston’s Follies as they were never used in action. The Fort was manned during the First World War and the drawbridge was raised every night, since then the Ministry of War sold it into private hands in 1927. It was used as a hotel and tearooms in the 30’s and at the end of the Second World War was sold to a family where it was sub divided. It was sold to its current owners in 1988 and has been completely refurbished to its current glory.

The Fort is available to hire on an exclusive basis for either a mid week booking or for a weekend, and as it says on their website it’s like hiring a Country Cottage, but on a much larger scale!

Polhawn Fort Cornwall Wedding Photography is particularly challenging as the windows are very small and let through very limited light, which although incredibly romantic, it makes capturing a wedding difficult. This is a place where we have to call on all our skills and training to achieve the amazing results we do.

Because of its vast size, some of the best weddings we’ve photographed there have had the Bride AND the Groom getting ready there (in separate rooms of course) then the marriage ceremony and reception. There is a hug amount of outdoor space for your group shots, and also a private secluded beach where we can capture some truly amazing images of the bride and groom.

Despite being at the bottom of a one mile drive and several miles from the nearest shop it is just 25 miles from the City of Plymouth. The drive to the Fort is spectacular following the Cornish Coastline all the way from Crafthole down to Rame Head. You can see the Fort from the road about a mile away, and especially from this angle you can see why it’s a wedding photographer in Cornwall’s dream location!
