The restoration and rebuild of the Trevarno Country Estate would be an unenviable task for anyone. Mike Sagin and his partner Nigel Helsby undertook this massive project in 1995 after purchasing the estate following its sale for the first time in 120 years. This was no mean feat; the estate comprises over 750 acres of woodland, parkland, lakes and gardens. The estate can take back its origins to 1245 and has been in the hands of many notable Cornish families including the Arundels. The purchase of the estate by Mike Sagin was a huge risk as he purchased all 33 lots to prevent the estate from being broken up. The huge restoration and development project is now underway and progressing well with many awards and the accolades being attributed to the new owners.
The restoration projects are sympathetic to the existing estate, local community and local craft producers. The estates infrastructure has been significantly improved with new parking facilities, roads, toilet facilities and visitor attractions. The primary objective of the restoration project was to promote the outstanding gardens and gardening facilities. This includes the opening of the national gardening museum in a purpose designed building in 2001.
